On Mondays and Fridays I feature someone who understands what it means to be a brand champion. Today I recognize Peggy Olson the strategic thinking, copywriter for Sterling-Cooper advertising agency from the hit series Mad Men. Peggy, one of the only woman with an office in the show, is also one of the only characters who I would consider hiring for my firm in the 21st Century.
I love the setting for the show and watching the agency/client relationships. The show helps me keep in perspective why the world of marketing, especially in the United States, has been dominated by advertising concepts and media buys from Mad Men. Thank goodness those days are changing. Now that more and more organizations are understanding that developing a sustainable brand is based on mission, core values and stakeholder engagement. Combined with new media like blogs, facebook, mobile, twitter and others, the days of the Mad Men are coming to a screeching halt.
For the strategic brand and marketing thinkers out there, I say thank you for the Peggy Olson's of the world, you are the Brand Champion of the Day!
