A few days ago I read on washingtonpost.com about the initiative many college and university presidents are engaged in concerning lowering the drinking age from 21 years old to 18 in their state. Some say that lowering the drinking age will decrease binge drinking on campus and make their campuses safer, ultimately improving the image and reputation of their school. At first glance, this appears to be counterintuitive to many.
Apparently, over 100 college and university presidents have signed onto the initiative. Opinions range from strong support to those who think it beneficial to at least have a dialogue to explore the outcomes of lowering the drinking age. As you can imagine, others have voiced outrage that college and university leadership would even consider support for such a decision.
Would lowering the drinking age from 21 years old to 18, enhance or dilute the image of colleges and universities?
