Give credit where credit is due. That is what I always believe, even when you wish things might have turned out different. Certainly that is the case with Mexico's dominating defeat of the Americans in last Saturday night's Gold Cup futbol championship. I am glad that I did not act on my first instincts of writing this post after the USA went up 2 nil.
About the time I thought about posting a few notes, Mexico scored a goal to get back in the match. From there on it was all Mexico. The look on Tim Howard's face as Mexico scored its fourth goal was symbolic of what all Americans felt at the time, and how many of us feel about USA futbol in general. We want things to go well in international competition, but too many times we are in anguish at the end of the match.
For today I tip my hat to Mexico, the better team. Their brand of futbol represents speed, agility, creativity and a huge following of brand champions. They are the Brand Champion of the Day.
