Yesterday I had the pleasure of helping facilitate a social media team meeting for a university brand client. We talked about ways of connecting brand champions through social media and the critical role social media plays in communicating the essence of a brand. I applaud this institution for embracing a strategic approach to brand building and social media. Blogs were a part of the conversation and one that I suggest everyone explore.
Most organizations limit the brand development process to a tagline, logo or ad. Most organizations limit their social media strategy to getting as many friends, followers and fans as possible. Those are short-term tactics with a shelf life that goes stale fast. Sustainable brands are those that understand who they are and what they stand for. Sustainable brands understand that social media plays an integral role in recruiting and retaining brand champions.
A blog is a great way to share your views, as long as they are correct and on-brand. A blog is an effective way to connect with your brand champions and connect to other social media sites, where your brand champions reside. Once this post is launched it will go to my linked-in connections, my friends on facebook, my followers on twitter and who knows where else. A blog can be your base camp for hiking the Internet. You just might find yourself at the top of the Google mountain on page one.

Yeah, it totally can! Blogs are nowadays magazines
